Software Engineer, Cloud - Sustaining Engineering

Canonical is hiring a Sustaining Engineering Software Engineer to fix critical bugs upstream in the open-source stack across Ubuntu, OpenStack, and Kubernetes, in a fully remote role.

Responsibilities

  • ▹Resolve complex customer problems in Ubuntu, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and other open-source software
  • ▹Maintain close collaboration with field, support, and product engineering teams
  • ▹Participate in upstream communities
  • ▹Develop fixes, backport patches, and work with upstream for inclusion
  • ▹Review code produced by other engineers
  • ▹Participate in team discussions to improve processes, tools, and documentation

Requirements

  • ▹Professional experience as a software engineer
  • ▹Background in Computer Science or STEM
  • ▹Strong experience with Linux, OpenStack, Kubernetes, or other cloud technologies
  • ▹Development-level Python, Go, C, C++ skills on Linux
  • ▹Ability to troubleshoot with gdb and other tools
  • ▹Familiarity with git source control and branches
  • ▹Exceptional academic track record

Nice to have

  • ▹Willingness to travel internationally (up to 4 times a year)
