Engineering Manager - Solutions Engineering

Canonical is looking for a leader for a regional Python engineering team building model-driven, infrastructure-as-code operations tooling. The team works closely with the group running private OpenStack and Kubernetes environments.

Responsibilities

  • ▹Lead and develop a team of Python engineers working remotely in global locations
  • ▹Hiring, coaching, mentoring, feedback and hands-on career development
  • ▹Contribute code directly to demonstrate sound engineering principles
  • ▹Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects
  • ▹Set and manage expectations with other engineering and operations teams
  • ▹Coordinate with management and internal and external stakeholders or customers
  • ▹Advocate for modern, agile software development practices
  • ▹Help develop and evangelize engineering and organizational practices
  • ▹Grow a healthy, collaborative engineering culture
  • ▹Be an active part of the leadership team
  • ▹Travel globally up to 10% of the time

Requirements

  • ▹Love of developing and growing people, with a track record of doing it
  • ▹Knowledge of and passion for agile software development
  • ▹Love of leading, coaching and mentoring software developers, especially Python ones
  • ▹Knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies
  • ▹Comfortable administering Linux servers, including storage and networking
  • ▹Hands-on experience with software automation
  • ▹Organized, able to have the team deliver high-quality software on time

Nice to have

  • ▹University degree in Computer Science or a related software engineering field
  • ▹Thorough understanding of modern infrastructure, including OpenStack or Kubernetes
  • ▹Experience in operations as well as software development
  • ▹Familiarity with the challenges of large-scale, multi-cloud operations
  • ▹Go expertise
