CLI Engineer

Stack

Responsibilities

• ▹Design, build, and operate backend APIs/services in TypeScript using NestJS patterns
• ▹Design and develop CLI tooling that is consistent, secure, and performant across platforms
• ▹Collaborate with product and platform teams to define end-to-end behavior
• ▹Implement unit, integration, and end-to-end tests across backend and CLI
• ▹Create documentation and help content for API consumers, CLI users, and contributors
• ▹Participate in releases, versioning, and backwards compatibility
• ▹Monitor usage and feedback, working with customers and the open-source community

Requirements

• ▹5+ years of software development experience with a strong track record in backend systems and/or developer tooling
• ▹Strong TypeScript and production API/server-side experience; NestJS experience strongly aligned
• ▹Hands-on experience building or owning CLIs, including cross-platform filesystem/subprocess/terminal UX concerns
• ▹Proficiency in one or more CLI/backend languages (TypeScript/Node, Rust, Python, Go, C++), with TypeScript depth essential
• ▹Experience building CLIs with strong UX: intuitive commands, clear output, actionable errors
• ▹Familiarity with package distribution (npm, yarn, Homebrew, APT, Snap, Scoop, Chocolatey)
• ▹Solid Git workflow and CI/CD experience

Nice to have

• ▹Contributions to open-source CLI tools, libraries, or backend frameworks
• ▹Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
• ▹Familiarity with database migration management, Postgres, and related drivers/protocols
