Postgres Deployment Engineer (Nix)

Responsibilities

• ▹Package software into the supabase/postgres repo using Nix (with flakes), transitioning from traditional packaging
• ▹Manage PostgreSQL lifecycles: timely major, minor, and extension upgrades
• ▹Expand platform release systems for increasing developer self-service
• ▹Optimize CI/CD and tooling, especially GitHub Actions and testing/release approaches
• ▹Proactively identify and fix production issues in customer deployments
• ▹Maintain best practices and tests to improve stability and reduce deployment risk

Requirements

• ▹3+ years of experience with PostgreSQL and its ecosystem, including extensions and performance optimization
• ▹Proven infrastructure expertise in management, tooling, and optimization
• ▹Proficient in the Nix package management system (including flakes), alongside Ansible, Packer, Docker, QEMU/KVM, AWS, and Kubernetes
• ▹Experience building for multiple architectures (Linux and Darwin/macOS aarch64)
• ▹Comfortable in polyglot environments (C/C++, Go, JavaScript, Rust)
• ▹Clear communication across technical and non-technical audiences, including customers
• ▹Experience in async or globally distributed teams, independent proactive problem-solving
• ▹Willingness to mentor the engineering team on Nix-based work
