Edge Functions Engineer

Responsibilities

• ▹Evolve the open-source, Rust-based Supabase Edge Runtime (Deno isolate management, per-request memory/CPU limits)
• ▹Implement monitoring, alerting, and OpenTelemetry tracing to drive latency and reliability improvements
• ▹Work closely with Deno and other open-source teams, contributing upstream
• ▹Participate in an on-call rotation to keep Edge Functions healthy in production
• ▹Help manage and improve scheduled functions, background tasks, WebSocket streaming, ephemeral file storage, custom routing
• ▹Integrate functions more tightly with the rest of the Supabase stack (Auth, Postgres, Storage, Realtime)
• ▹Expand functions to support more use cases (AI inference, MCP servers, simple websites, URL shorteners)
• ▹Improve the DX of developing and debugging functions locally via the Supabase CLI

Requirements

• ▹5+ years of backend or systems engineering experience with strong fluency in Rust and TypeScript
• ▹Experience with V8 Isolates, Deno, and JavaScript runtimes in general
• ▹Experience operating infrastructure at scale (Kubernetes, AWS, Cloudflare Workers, Redis or comparable)
• ▹A strong vision for pushing compute and data to the edge

Nice to have

• ▹Experience building developer-facing CLIs or front-end tooling on top of an infrastructure product
