Machine Learning Software Engineer II

Cambium Learning Group is looking for a Machine Learning Engineer II to join its CAI machine learning and scoring team, bridging applied research and production systems by designing and deploying custom machine learning solutions on AWS infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the transition of machine learning models from theoretical prototypes into scalable, high-performance production systems
  • Architect and deploy ML solutions using AWS ECS for containerized workloads and AWS Lambda for serverless, event-driven inference pipelines
  • Optimize PyTorch models for production deployment by converting them to ONNX formats
  • Apply inference optimization techniques (quantization, pruning, ONNX Runtime) and memory-efficient attention mechanisms like Flash Attention
  • Establish reliable CI/CD pipelines and ensure robust, secure, and reproducible deployments across the AWS ecosystem
  • Design, develop, and evaluate algorithms generating descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive insights
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-tested code, with rigorous testing, debugging, and documentation
  • Participate in research discussions, requirements gathering, and system design alongside domain experts

Requirements

  • Full-stack ML practitioner comfortable with both algorithmic research and production system architecture
  • Experience with AWS infrastructure such as SageMaker, ECS, and Lambda
  • Experience with PyTorch and PyTorch-to-ONNX model optimization
  • Experience building scalable, low-latency production systems

Soft skills

Comfortable discussing algorithmic design with researchers and architecting production systemsStrong cross-functional collaboration with mathematicians, computer scientists, psychometricians, and statisticians
