Lead Machine Learning Engineer (Robotics & Computer Vision)

AI / ML Engineer • Senior • Remote • Full-time European Union EU/EMEA

Hands-on Lead Machine Learning Engineer role owning the AI/ML core of an early-stage EU robotics automation startup, training deep learning models from scratch and building computer vision pipelines for a physical robotics product.

Responsibilities

  • Own the AI/ML core of the product, aligning with the CTO & Co-founder on technical strategy
  • Write custom training loops, design and implement neural network architectures (PyTorch), manage the end-to-end lifecycle from data processing to edge deployment
  • Build AI/ML components of the MVP, managing the model lifecycle from architecture design through training, fine-tuning, and hardware control interfaces
  • Propose and help define the AI/ML stack and model architecture
  • Monitor AI, computer vision, and robotics trends
  • Work closely with the CTO and mentor engineers joining the AI/ML function as the team grows
  • Translate customer feedback and market needs into AI/ML technical requirements
  • Contribute to a culture of code quality, ownership, rapid iteration, and high execution standards

Requirements

  • 3+ years of end-to-end deep learning experience: data processing, architecture design, training from scratch, deep fine-tuning (no API prompting)
  • Advanced framework proficiency (PyTorch preferred), including custom data loaders and loss functions
  • Computer vision expertise: CNNs, ViTs, object detection, segmentation
  • Solid software engineering foundation, track record shipping ML components in production
  • Startup mindset: pragmatic, analytical, comfortable in fast-paced, high-uncertainty environments
  • Fluent Polish and English

Nice to have

  • Experience with hardware control and integration of AI models with physical systems (robotics, embedded systems, IoT)
  • Experience with robotics technologies (ROS/ROS2, simulation environments, control systems)
  • Experience in robotics automation platforms, cloud-edge architecture, or industrial automation
  • Background in deep-tech, robotics, or engineering-driven startups
  • Hands-on computer vision experience
  • Prior leadership experience (Lead Engineer, Tech Lead)
