SDK Engineer - JavaScript

Stack

Responsibilities

• ▹Build and evolve the JS/TS SDKs (database, auth, storage, realtime, edge functions)
• ▹Start new things: identify what's missing, make the case for it, and build it
• ▹Work in the open: triage inbound issues, review outside contributions, keep CI and release automation healthy
• ▹Own the type experience: keep generated database types flowing correctly through client APIs
• ▹Keep the SDKs consistent across runtimes (Node, Deno, Bun, browsers, Cloudflare Workers, React Native/Expo), including dual ESM/CJS publishing
• ▹Work on realtime: long-lived WebSocket connections, reconnection, subscription and presence semantics
• ▹Track platform changes (auth, realtime, storage, postgrest, edge-runtime) and reflect them in SDKs and changelog
• ▹Write RFCs, migration guides, release notes and docs
• ▹Make the SDKs legible to AI coding agents

Requirements

• ▹Expert-level TypeScript (generics, conditional and mapped types used as design tools)
• ▹Experience authoring or maintaining a published library with a public API and consumers outside your own company
• ▹Open-source maintainer experience: issue triage at volume, reviewing outside PRs, release automation, changelogs, semver, security reports
• ▹npm packaging fluency: dual ESM/CJS builds, export maps, type resolution, semver discipline
• ▹Testing as a habit: unit, type-level and end-to-end tests against a real stack
• ▹Strong written communication for design docs, changelogs and issue replies
