Developer Relations Engineer

Canonical, publisher of Ubuntu, is building a new Developer Relations team and is hiring a technical expert-communicator to engage directly with open source communities, solve technical problems, and shape the developer experience.

Responsibilities

  • ▹Take part in product meetings from strategy to day-to-day progress
  • ▹Maintain conversations with developer community members (IRC, social media, forums, meetups)
  • ▹Work with other teams to establish consistent approaches
  • ▹Help solve specific technical problems for users or colleagues
  • ▹Contribute to technical documentation
  • ▹Create technical articles, presentations, or workshops
  • ▹Present at conferences and meetups

Requirements

  • ▹Programmer/developer background with demonstrable passion for open source
  • ▹Real-world Linux software development and deployment experience
  • ▹Hands-on experience with Linux software packaging (Snaps, debs, charms, rocks, PIP, containers)
  • ▹Understanding of current Linux packaging trends and issues
  • ▹History of contributing to open-source communities, software, and documentation
  • ▹Engaging, confident public speaking skills
  • ▹Willingness to travel globally twice a year

Nice to have

  • ▹Previous experience in developer advocacy or community roles
  • ▹In-depth familiarity with Ubuntu and the Canonical ecosystem
