Senior Data Architect

As part of Oura's unified data mesh platform, we're looking for a Senior Data Architect to set the data foundations and models for our data products, accelerating business growth and optimizing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Design and manage data domains to enable interoperable, trustworthy data products
  • Build and optimize Oura's Data Lakehouse using Databricks, Google BigQuery, and Snowflake at terabyte-to-petabyte scale
  • Implement federated data governance within the data mesh (privacy, HIPAA/PHI compliance, security)
  • Partner with Data Engineering, Data Science, and business domain owners on unified analytics and modeling practices
  • Design vector-based data architectures and RAG patterns for LLM reporting and agentic AI
  • Establish scalable data management frameworks and a governed data dictionary

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in data architecture or modeling, with a strong technical foundation in cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Databricks, or Azure)
  • Multi-cloud expertise: AWS (S3, Kinesis, Glue, Athena), GCP (BigQuery, VertexAI), or Azure
  • Proficiency designing modern cloud-native warehouses like Snowflake or Google BigQuery
  • Ability to build and operate a unified lakehouse architecture
  • Experience with containerization and workflow tools: Docker, Pulumi
  • Familiarity with Data Mesh principles: federated governance, decentralized ownership
  • Expertise in Master Data Management (MDM) and Reference Data Management (RDM)
  • Proficiency with modern formats (Iceberg) and transformation tools (dbt, dbt Cloud on Databricks)
  • Experience with production-quality AI/ML and predictive modeling (VertexAI, MLOps)
  • Skill designing LLM/NLP architectures (RAG, vector-based data design)
  • Knowledge of data residency and privacy standards
  • Experience establishing HIPAA and PHI standards in regulated environments
  • Familiarity with stream processing: Kafka, Kinesis, Python, Spark, SQL
  • Experience with orchestration tools: Airflow, Dagster, dbt, Databricks Lakeflow

Nice to have

  • Experience in healthcare, wellness, consumer electronics, wearables, or subscription industries
  • Broad knowledge of software fundamentals and system design
  • Experience streamlining multiple data pipelines into a centralized function
  • Embedding analytics into product, finance, sales, marketing, and customer experience
  • Experience navigating hypergrowth while managing regulatory constraints
  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field
