Student Assistant – Data Engineering and Data Science

Data Engineer • On-site • Full-time Germany Darmstadt, Germany

Fraunhofer SIT / ATHENE is looking for a student assistant to support the ATHENE office in automating data processing and reporting workflows, data cleaning and duplicate detection. The work includes Python-based script development, database management and visualizing results.

Responsibilities

  • Developing scripts (mainly in Python) to automate data processing and reporting workflows
  • Preparing and structuring heterogeneous, unstructured data sets and ensuring data quality
  • Detecting and merging duplicates (record linkage) using fuzzy matching methods, optionally ML-supported
  • Building, maintaining and querying databases (e.g. SQL, Baserow)
  • Contributing to configuring and maintaining the server and processing environment
  • Preparing results as visualizations and dashboards for scientific reporting

Requirements

  • Good Python skills, ideally with experience in data analysis libraries (pandas, NumPy)
  • Basic knowledge of databases and SQL
  • Very good German (C1) and good English (B2)
  • Reliable, careful and independent way of working

Nice to have

  • First experience with machine learning methods and/or natural language processing (NLP)
  • Interest in data cleaning and duplicate-detection methods
  • Experience with large data sets and a good feel for data analysis and visualization
  • Confident use of Git
  • Basic server configuration and administration skills (e.g. Linux, command line)
