Senior Staff Software Engineer, Calibration

Responsibilities

• ▹Design, implement, and deliver calibration systems end to end: algorithms, fixtures, on-fixture software, data pipelines, validation, operator workflow
• ▹Own calibration across perception sensors (RGB cameras, LiDAR, thermal imagers) and kinematic calibration, including coupling sensor extrinsics with arm and whole-body kinematics
• ▹Establish the data and metrics infrastructure underpinning calibration: per-unit records, accuracy and drift metrics, traceability, fleet-level monitoring
• ▹Own delivery of calibration fixture software, including operator-facing applications on Linux
• ▹Own delivery of in-field self-check and recalibration capabilities through Digit's service life
• ▹Define requirements calibration outputs place on downstream manufacturing (cycle time, repeatability, data capture, operator workflow)
• ▹Coordinate with sensor vendors and contract manufacturers on deploying calibration processes
• ▹Identify, hire, mentor and develop other engineers contributing to calibration work

Requirements

• ▹10+ years of practical experience calibrating complex robotic or sensor-rich systems in real production environments
• ▹Track record designing and delivering calibration systems end to end: algorithms, fixtures, on-fixture software, validation, operator workflow
• ▹Deep expertise across multiple sensor modalities (RGB cameras, LiDAR, thermal imagers, IMUs, encoders) with working command of kinematic calibration
• ▹Demonstrated understanding of production calibration needs: repeatability, data collection, simplicity, throughput
• ▹Experience building the data and metrics infrastructure supporting calibration at scale
• ▹Strong programming skills in C++ and Python
• ▹Player-coach orientation: capable of executing directly while developing talent
• ▹Effective collaboration across hardware, controls, perception, sensor vendors, and contract manufacturers

Nice to have

• ▹Owned calibration end to end at an autonomous vehicle or mobile robotics company (humanoid, quadruped, or other dynamically stable robot)
• ▹Experience with in-field calibration validation and recalibration on deployed fleets
• ▹Background in metrology, optical alignment, or geometric computer vision
• ▹Built data infrastructure for production calibration: traceability databases, per-unit calibration history, fleet-wide monitoring
