Instacart's Marketing Enablement & Technology (MET) team builds the systems, APIs, and data pipelines powering Instacart's paid marketing channels. This Senior Software Engineer role on the Paid MarTech pod architects and scales backend services and ETL processes for campaign execution, conversion tracking, and third-party integrations across Paid Social, Display, SEM, Online Video, Linear TV, and Streaming Audio, with end-to-end project ownership and mentoring responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complete projects independently across backend services, APIs, and data pipelines, defining experimentation, development, and rollout strategies with minimal guidance
  • Architect scalable, robust solutions for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency
  • Drive technical improvements by identifying underlying problems and designing reusable abstractions
  • Partner directly with Marketing and Product stakeholders to influence features and requirements
  • Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and onboarding support

Requirements

  • 5-8 years of software engineering experience with expert-level Python for scalable backend services, APIs, and data pipelines
  • Proven track record leading complete projects end-to-end: architecture, implementation, experimentation, and rollout
  • Deep expertise with data integration technologies (Snowflake, SQL, ETL) and workflow orchestration tools (Airflow, dbt)
  • Ability to design for performance, scalability, and robustness, with observability experience (logging, metrics, tracing)
  • Strong product thinking and ability to influence product direction
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to mentor engineers and drive cross-team alignment

Nice to have

  • Experience building automation frameworks and reusable abstractions
  • Advanced knowledge of ad platform APIs (Google Ads, Facebook Ads, Snapchat Ads) and conversion tracking
  • Deep understanding of digital marketing operations and performance KPIs (ROAS, LTV, CAC, CPA)
  • Cloud cost optimization, chaos engineering, and disaster recovery planning
  • Track record managing technical debt and legacy system modernization
  • Security-by-design principles and incident response leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools for productivity improvements
