Staff Machine Learning Engineer, Consumer

As a Staff ML Engineer in Reddit's Consumer Engineering org, you'll build recommendation, search, and foundational AI systems from research through production.

Responsibilities

  • Lead ML initiatives end-to-end from ideation through production and iteration
  • Architect large-scale ML systems across recommendation, search, and content/user understanding
  • Drive measurable impact on user engagement and content discovery
  • Align product and technical roadmaps with cross-functional teams
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to responsible AI principles

Requirements

  • 7+ years building and operating ML systems in production
  • Deep understanding of classical and modern deep learning methods (Transformers, GNN)
  • Expert-level use of TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Hugging Face Transformers
  • Production-quality code in Python and Golang with testing and monitoring
  • Experience scaling ML systems: pipelines, feature engineering, training/serving
  • Track record of measurable impact through applied machine learning

Nice to have

  • Subject matter expertise in recommender systems, search, or content understanding (NLU/NLP/LLM)
  • Familiarity with distributed data processing frameworks (Spark, Kafka, Ray, Airflow, BigQuery, Redis)
  • Experience with real-time, low-latency production systems
  • Experience with LLM/GenAI techniques (evaluation, fine-tuning, RAG/agentic systems)
