Responsibilities

• ▹Lead and grow high-performing engineering teams, fostering a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and technical excellence
• ▹Coach and develop engineers, supporting them through regular feedback, mentorship, and career development in an inclusive, collaborative team environment
• ▹Define and drive long-term vision, setting team strategy in full alignment with company objectives and product priorities
• ▹Identify and prioritize high-impact opportunities, partnering closely with Product, Data, and Design
• ▹Own execution and delivery, balancing speed, quality, and reliability while ensuring teams consistently achieve outcomes
• ▹Provide technical leadership: guide system design and architectural decisions, help teams navigate trade-offs, remove technical obstacles
• ▹Champion engineering best practices, driving continuous improvement in code quality, operational excellence, development processes, and technology evolution
• ▹Collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders across the broader business to maximize impact

Requirements

• ▹3-5+ years of experience in building, leading, and scaling development teams
• ▹People-centric approach and team building skills: psychological safety, actionable feedback, coaching and mentorship for growth
• ▹Strong technical judgment and systems thinking: driving architectural discussions, evaluating trade-offs, championing engineering best practices
• ▹Product and business partnership: working closely with Product, Design, and Data partners, connecting technical decisions to user experience and business metrics
• ▹Results-oriented: a track record of driving performance, motivating teams toward ambitious, business-focused, measurable goals
• ▹Ethical leadership: empathy, transparency, accountability, strong ownership, fostering a culture where people feel safe to challenge ideas and learn

About the company

Preply builds human-led, tech-enabled, AI-enhanced learning experiences. The company recently reached unicorn status with a $150M Series D. Today, 100,000+ tutors teach 90+ languages to learners in 180 countries. The engineering team builds scalable applications on Python/Django with a strong focus on A/B testing and data; thanks to advanced CI/CD, they release code 50-60 times per day, with 90%+ adoption of AI coding tools across engineering. The role sits within either the Growth tribe (owns much of the learner journey) or the Monetization tribe (Preply's economic engine: subscriptions, bookings, payments, pricing, commissions).
