Responsibilities

• ▹Partner with Sales and Customer Engineering as technical expert throughout the customer journey
• ▹Lead technical discovery to match customer objectives with PlanetScale's offerings
• ▹Design and execute proof of value timelines with agreed business outcomes
• ▹Design database migration strategies and execute migrations hands-on with customers
• ▹Assess workloads, analyze performance requirements, recommend architecture and sizing
• ▹Build tools, scripts, and automation that accelerate migrations and onboarding
• ▹Create educational content (documentation, guides, blog posts, workshops, videos)
• ▹Collaborate with Product and Engineering to advocate for customer needs

Requirements

• ▹5+ years hands-on experience with MySQL or PostgreSQL in production, OR 5+ years supporting customers on these workloads
• ▹Experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure, or OCI)
• ▹Proven success in customer-facing technical roles (Solutions Architect, Sales Engineer, TAM)
• ▹Strong understanding of database migration strategies and tooling
• ▹Experience evaluating database solutions including architecture reviews and capacity planning
• ▹Ability to write scripts and tools in Python, Go, or JavaScript
• ▹Experience creating technical content such as documentation or tutorials

Nice to have

• ▹Experience with AWS DMS or logical replication tools
• ▹Knowledge of Vitess, database sharding, or distributed database systems
• ▹Familiarity with Kubernetes and cloud-native architectures
• ▹Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation)
• ▹Open-source contributions or active participation in database communities
• ▹Public speaking experience at conferences or meetups
