Lead Machine Learning Scientist, FinCrime

Technical leadership role within Monzo's Financial Crime Data team, developing advanced ML models to detect fraud and financial crime on a modern cloud-native platform with billions of rows of data.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately detect suspicious user behaviours while minimising impact on genuine customers
  • Adapt quickly to changing fraud and financial crime trends
  • Work with stakeholders to identify the most impactful ML opportunities against financial crime
  • Lead design and development of advanced real-time ML models (neural network, graph-based, sequence-based)
  • Provide technical leadership across the Machine Learning discipline, mentoring others
  • Partner with MLOps on tooling for rapid model iteration

Requirements

  • Multiple years of excellence leading development and deployment of advanced ML models for real business problems
  • Experience shipping deep learning, graph-based or sequence-based ML architectures to production
  • Impact-driven, owning the end-to-end journey from problem to production
  • Extensive production Python experience and strong SQL, willingness to learn Go
  • Product mindset caring about customer outcomes and data-informed decisions
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity

Nice to have

  • Experience with financial crime and regulated institutions
  • Commercial experience with critical production code and microservices

What we offer

  • £115,000-£150,000 salary, performance incentives, UK relocation and visa sponsorship
