The SumUp Global Bank tribe builds the infrastructure and core services behind a digital bank account for small merchants. As a Senior Backend Engineer in the Vilnius team, you will help move from a localized setup with regional banks toward a unified, fully distributed, event-driven Global Bank. The tech stack includes Go, AWS, Kafka, PostgreSQL and Kubernetes, with observability via Prometheus, Grafana and Honeycomb.

Responsibilities

  • ▹Collaborate with a global team to design and build a unified global banking platform, including high-level APIs for multiple regions and local implementations
  • ▹Be part of the transformation team turning monolithic services into decoupled, highly scalable, region-agnostic global bank services
  • ▹Design, implement and iteratively develop highly available backend services while ensuring the reliability of transfer systems
  • ▹Maintain and improve core services on a cloud-native stack (AWS, K8s) with microservices in Golang, Kotlin, Java and Elixir
  • ▹Improve test coverage and drive end-to-end delivery of changes, including testing, observability and monitoring
  • ▹Shape and continuously improve the engineering culture through best practices, documentation and tool selection

Requirements

  • ▹Solid programming experience in Golang, with interest in working with additional languages such as Java, Kotlin and Elixir
  • ▹Advanced understanding of developing and maintaining distributed and event-driven systems
  • ▹Solid experience with event streaming platforms and message brokers such as Kafka
  • ▹Experience with modern cloud technologies like AWS and containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • ▹Comfortable working with SQL and NoSQL databases
  • ▹Experience with CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions or ArgoCD
  • ▹A strong sense of ownership and a commitment to clear, maintainable, testable code

Nice to have

  • ▹Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana and Honeycomb
  • ▹Experience in the fintech industry
