Backend Lead - Hands-on Tech Lead

Responsibilities

• ▹Own the backend technical direction and architecture across the product ecosystem
• ▹Translate product initiatives into technical solutions: clarify requirements, assess feasibility and risks, prepare technical designs, decompose work
• ▹Own the full engineering lifecycle from refinement and design to implementation, release, monitoring and production improvements
• ▹Design scalable, reliable, maintainable backend solutions; build shared backend capabilities and reusable components
• ▹Define service boundaries, data ownership, APIs and integration patterns
• ▹Make and defend pragmatic architectural decisions (monolith vs services, sync vs async, SQL vs NoSQL, build vs buy)
• ▹Stay hands-on with Python and FastAPI: critical implementation, prototyping, debugging, code reviews, technical research
• ▹Lead the design of event-driven and asynchronous workflows (retries, idempotency, ordering, failure handling, message processing)
• ▹Own production readiness and operational health: monitoring, logging, alerting, SLIs/SLOs, runbooks, incident response, root-cause analysis
• ▹Improve engineering practices: testing, code review, CI/CD, release safety, documentation, technical debt management
• ▹Introduce and scale AI-assisted and agentic development workflows across the team
• ▹Lead and develop backend engineers through delegation, feedback, one-to-ones, mentoring and performance reviews
• ▹Collaborate with Product, Platform, DevOps, QA and Frontend

Requirements

• ▹7+ years of backend engineering experience
• ▹2+ years in a Tech Lead, Team Lead or Backend Lead role
• ▹Strong, recent hands-on production experience with Python, ideally 5+ years
• ▹Strong knowledge of modern Python backend development practices
