Senior Software Engineer, Forward Deployed AI Engineer
MongoDB is looking for an outstanding engineer to join its newly created Forward Deployed Engineering team, a key role in the extended R&D organization that links application modernization work with the Product and Engineering teams. Many organizations run large estates of legacy applications with scalability, resilience, cost and cloud-readiness issues, and generative AI tooling promises to dramatically accelerate their modernization. In this role you will evaluate, build and apply such tools in customer modernization projects, working alongside project teams and feeding insights back to MongoDB's R&D. Candidates should be based in Dublin for the hybrid working model.
Responsibilities
- ▹Contribute to customer application modernization initiatives across the application lifecycle: assessment and analysis, planning and design, data modeling, code conversion, development, test and build, integration and release configuration, production operations, optimisation and best practices adoption
- ▹Test drive MongoDB migration products on customer use cases, drive adoption and deliver concise feedback to the development organisation
- ▹Work closely with Product and Engineering teams to influence the direction of the MongoDB product roadmap
- ▹Personally execute POCs, including developing or extending tools when needed, with an eye towards reusability and eventual product integration, often on premises at client locations
- ▹Maintain a broad and deep technical understanding of the product line and underlying technologies and protocols
- ▹Work as part of a wider delivery team of consulting engineers, project managers and account teams
- ▹Assist sales teams in evaluating opportunities with prospects and customers
- ▹Work on site with customers for 7 days per month, including regional travel within Europe
Requirements
- ▹4+ years of experience as a field engineer, professional services consultant or full stack developer working directly with enterprise clients
- ▹Proficiency in Java or C#, with familiarity with common database access patterns and frameworks in these languages
- ▹Strong knowledge of enterprise-scale software architectures, application development methodologies, and software deployment and operations
- ▹Experience developing enterprise applications with relational databases, using SQL and stored procedures with Oracle, MS SQL Server, Sybase and/or PostgreSQL
- ▹Good understanding of Generative AI concepts, tools and services
- ▹Willingness to dive into a complex domain, ask the right questions and bring new software tools and technologies to solve customer problems
- ▹Strong interest in how AI-supported toolchains can improve application development
- ▹Willingness to work on site with customers 7 days per month, with regional travel within Europe
- ▹Based in Dublin for the hybrid working model
Nice to have
- ▹Experience using and developing with MongoDB and JSON-based document models
- ▹Experience building new applications or tools using Generative AI, including Cursor, Claude Code, Gemini and OpenAI APIs
