Engineering Manager - Content API (f/m/d)
Contentful is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing, remote-first web development team based in Europe that drives the technical strategy for content and entity reusability. The focus is on enhancing the platform's management capabilities to enable re-use of core content entities such as Content Types and Entries, and on establishing strong governance systems for enterprise organisations. You will partner closely with cross-functional teams to align technical goals with business objectives and deliver scalable, high-performance solutions.
Responsibilities
- ▹Lead and grow a globally distributed web development team with a culture of high performance, collaboration and continuous improvement
- ▹Mentor and develop team members across all levels
- ▹Define the team roadmap with a focus on entity re-use and enterprise governance systems, and on maintaining and optimizing existing content management systems and services
- ▹Collaborate with Product and Design to craft the roadmap and ensure its successful execution
- ▹Work with stakeholders in Product, Design, Research, Infrastructure and Security to translate business needs into technical solutions
- ▹Oversee the technical approach for integrating and scaling the platform's content management features (Content Models, Collections, Locales)
- ▹Ensure the architecture remains performant, secure and scalable as user needs grow
- ▹Guide the team through solutioning, coding, testing and deployment, ensuring best practices
- ▹Oversee day-to-day web development operations with global coverage for continuous operations
- ▹Work with Product Managers to define, prioritize and execute the roadmap, and communicate goals, progress and blockers to stakeholders
Requirements
- ▹2+ years of experience leading development teams, with a track record of delivering complex, high-impact technical solutions
- ▹Proficiency in web technologies such as TypeScript, JavaScript, React and Node.js
- ▹Familiarity with headless CMS platforms, preferably Contentful
- ▹Experience optimizing performance and scalability with complex content structures and large datasets
- ▹Ability to balance innovation with immediate impact, overseeing technical delivery while growing team capabilities
- ▹Effective collaboration across Product, Design, Data and Engineering teams
- ▹Strong mentoring track record within a distributed team
- ▹People management experience: performance reviews, check-ins and calibration sessions
Nice to have
- ▹Experience with API-first platforms and optimizing front-end systems that consume complex API data
- ▹Familiarity with enterprise governance models and needs
- ▹Knowledge of data privacy and security best practices in web technologies
- ▹Good understanding of content modelling and structured content concepts across channels (web, mobile)
- ▹PostgreSQL knowledge: designing, optimizing and maintaining relational databases for scalability, reliability and performance
