Senior Machine Learning Engineer, Ads Foundational Representations

Responsibilities

• ▹Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the team's ML engineers: drive designs and their review, establish best practices in analysis, modeling and engineering, keep the bar high
• ▹Work with team and org leadership to develop the technical strategy for content-based embeddings and relevance for Ads
• ▹Develop new or iterate on existing embedding models for advertising use cases, from aggregation pipelines to two-tower architectures and sequence models
• ▹Work with local and third-party LLMs and VLMs: extract representations, develop evaluation methodologies, prompt-tune and fine-tune large models to build state-of-the-art embeddings
• ▹Build data processing and inference pipelines for the models you develop
• ▹Qualitatively and quantitatively evaluate the features you develop, with end-to-end experimentation from internal benchmarks to downstream recommender offline metrics to online experiments
• ▹Ensure the reliability, scalability and performance of ML systems by writing automated tests, monitoring performance and implementing model management best practices
• ▹Participate in modeling and code reviews and give feedback so work meets the team's quality and performance standards
• ▹Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions
• ▹Work across the team's focus areas: multimodal and content embeddings, contextual and behavioral relevance, knowledge graph embeddings (e.g. brands and intellectual properties), user intent modeling (batch and real-time sequence modeling, LLM summarization) and LLM-based representations

Requirements

• ▹7+ years of hands-on experience with the full lifecycle of designing, training, evaluating, testing and deploying industry-level models
• ▹Demonstrated Staff-level technical leadership: mentoring engineers, driving standards and bar raising, leading complex cross-functional projects from requirements and design to cross-team alignment and execution without direct people-management authority
• ▹Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for different audiences, verbally and in writing
• ▹Strong track record on content-rich NLP/CV problems at scale, using embeddings as a tool to solve them
• ▹Established data-driven approach to ML system development
• ▹Excitement about working with data and readiness to look behind the metric numbers
• ▹Familiarity with the Ads domain and/or Search/Recommender systems
• ▹Experience with mainstream DL frameworks: PyTorch or TensorFlow

Nice to have

• ▹Experience with the team's stack (Python, PyTorch, Airflow, BigQuery, Ray, Kubernetes, Kafka, GCP)
• ▹Tech leadership experience: mentoring junior engineers and leading complex projects
• ▹Hands-on experience using, fine-tuning or building LLMs
