Student Assistant for Continuing Education Courses in IT Forensics and AI Security

The Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology (SIT) is hiring a Student Assistant for the IT Forensics group, which researches and develops digital evidence discovery methods. The role supports the development of course materials and accompanying research for the 'Fraunhofer Cybersecurity Learning Lab' continuing education courses.

Responsibilities

  • Update or create course materials on a defined topic: presentation slides, screencast videos, WBTs.
  • Research technical developments and research findings for material development.
  • Develop PC exercises: design them, assemble tools, exercise data, and scripts (e.g., Bash, Python), create exercise sheets and model solutions, and conduct user tests.
  • Compile new forensic datasets: research or create images, videos, and text corpora.
  • Optimize existing course materials for comprehensibility, design, and readability.
  • Test internal and external forensic tools.
  • Optional: implement compact GUIs for CLI tools, administer VMs and GPU servers used for PC exercises, and jointly supervise PC exercises during courses.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a STEM degree programme.
  • Good knowledge of at least one relevant topic: disk/RAM analysis under Linux and Windows (file systems such as ext[234]/NTFS/FAT); detection of image/video manipulation (e.g., deepfakes) using deep learning classifiers and traditional multimedia forensics; robust hash functions for image recognition; OSINT and crawling, social media and the dark web/cryptocurrencies; machine learning for data analysis; AI security, attacks on deep learning (classifiers, LLMs) and countermeasures (e.g., adversarial examples, prompt injection).
  • Interest in familiarizing yourself with further specialist topics.
  • Strong interest in communicating specialist knowledge clearly and in a structured way.
  • A talent for graphic design (e.g., presentation slides, tutorial videos).
  • Independent working style, ability to meet deadlines.
  • Good knowledge of German (at least B2 or equivalent), as the course programme is delivered in German.

  • Teaching experience (e.g., teacher training, tutoring, private lessons).
