Staff Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

• ▹Design and build resilient backend services and APIs
• ▹Own high-level system architecture and major technical decisions across multiple systems
• ▹Oversee critical data pipelines from ingestion to enrichment to delivery
• ▹Architect systems for 100x data growth over the next three years
• ▹Lead major cross-team initiatives and complex project delivery end to end
• ▹Partner with ML leaders on model integration and agent architecture
• ▹Build reliability and test coverage into the code itself with no separate QA layer
• ▹Improve performance, scalability, and observability across the stack
• ▹Mentor engineers through direction, feedback, and day-to-day support
• ▹Raise the engineering bar through design reviews, pairing, and clear technical standards
• ▹Use next-gen AI tools to improve code quality and velocity

Requirements

• ▹8+ years building and operating complex, production backend systems
• ▹Deep experience with high-throughput, large distributed systems
• ▹Strong experience with Scala, Python, or functional / JVM languages
• ▹Comfortable with distributed systems, data modeling, and high-volume pipelines
• ▹History of providing technical coaching and direction to senior engineers
• ▹Experience introducing new technologies and patterns across the team
