Staff Backend Software Engineer (Revenue Engine)
As one of two staff engineers on the Revenue Engine team, you will partner with engineering leadership to set technical direction across the Payment Platform and Clearinghouse Platform — the systems integrating with Stripe, Plaid, and payer clearinghouses that move every dollar through Headway.
Responsibilities
- ▹Set technical direction across the Payment Platform and Clearinghouse Platform teams
- ▹Lead the design of fault-tolerant, observable, and deeply reconciled integrations with third-party services (Stripe, Plaid, payer clearinghouses)
- ▹Build the abstractions and standards that let adjacent teams (Billing Infrastructure, Patient Billing, Provider Payouts) ship faster and more safely
- ▹Write code where leverage is highest
- ▹Mentor senior engineers across both pods
- ▹Shape the operational excellence this domain demands
Requirements
- ▹End-to-end product builder, equally comfortable with API architecture and user experience
- ▹Proven track record of turning ambiguous problems into shipped software
- ▹Sets the technical standard, optimizing for maintainability and scale, not just shipping speed
- ▹Mentors by default, pulling engineers into design discussions and using code review to teach
- ▹Ships fast and iterates, favoring a good v1 this week over a perfect one next month
- ▹Quick study in complex domains such as healthcare
- ▹Communicates with precision across Slack, design docs, and cross-team meetings
