Responsibilities

• ▹Own high-consequence backend problems spanning services, teams, or product domains
• ▹Establish clear system boundaries and architectural direction
• ▹Lead technical decisions by making constraints, alternatives, and risks explicit
• ▹Improve performance, resilience, data integrity, and operability across production systems
• ▹Resolve recurring structural problems rather than symptoms
• ▹Stay hands-on where implementation or diagnosis is the fastest path to clarity
• ▹Mentor senior engineers, raise review quality
• ▹Partner with engineering and product leaders on sequencing and technical investment

Requirements

• ▹Evidence of technical impact across multiple teams or a substantial product domain
• ▹Deep ownership of distributed backend systems operating at meaningful scale
• ▹Strong judgement in service boundaries, asynchronous communication, data ownership
• ▹Deep knowledge of relational databases, transactions, concurrency, high-performance design
• ▹Track record improving reliability, scalability, or observability
• ▹Ability to influence technical direction through evidence rather than title
• ▹Clear communication that helps teams act on complex technical decisions
• ▹Strong engineering fundamentals and judgement on when to standardize or simplify
