Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

• ▹Develop and maintain clean, efficient, well-tested code with a focus on reliability and performance
• ▹Take ownership of features and small projects across the development lifecycle: design, implementation, testing and deployment, guided by senior engineers
• ▹Collaborate with product, design and operations teams to understand requirements and contribute technical insights
• ▹Build tools and integrate systems to improve operational efficiency and product effectiveness
• ▹Take part in code reviews, giving and receiving constructive feedback
• ▹Learn and apply new technologies and best practices
• ▹Help troubleshoot and resolve system issues
• ▹Contribute to team process improvements around code quality, testing and development workflows
• ▹Document your work and technical decisions clearly for technical and non-technical stakeholders

Requirements

• ▹2+ years of professional software development experience, with a good understanding of backend systems and software design principles
• ▹Proficiency in at least one of Java or Kotlin
• ▹Familiarity with object-oriented programming, data structures and algorithms
• ▹Experience with relational and/or non-relational databases
• ▹Understanding of version control (Git)
• ▹Strong problem-solving skills and a desire to learn
• ▹Good communication and collaboration skills
• ▹Experience working in an Agile/Scrum process
• ▹Ability to work well in a team and independently in a fast-paced environment
• ▹Fluent English

Nice to have

• ▹Degree in computer science, engineering or a related field
• ▹Experience in payments, fintech or location and business recommendation platforms
• ▹Cloud infrastructure experience (AWS, Kubernetes, Helm)
• ▹Experience with frameworks and libraries relevant to Teya's stack (e.g. Laravel, Spring, Reactor)
• ▹Familiarity with authorisation systems (e.g. RBAC, ABAC, SpiceDB)
• ▹Experience with BDD or TDD
• ▹Experience with CI/CD pipelines
