
Staff Design Engineer – Cloud Networking UX
This is an opportunity to shape the future of cloud networking user experience at Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu. As a Staff Design Engineer you will define the UX vision for how users interact with networking across the cloud portfolio, from MAAS to MicroCloud and Ubuntu Server networking. You will tackle challenges such as visualizing network topologies, designing intuitive configuration interfaces and making infrastructure manageable at scale. The role sits in the design team, reports to the Infrastructure design manager and is expected to have company-wide impact. It is based remotely in the EMEA region.

Responsibilities
- ▹Define and drive the UX strategy for cloud networking products across Canonical's portfolio
- ▹Design intuitive interfaces for complex networking concepts such as VPCs, subnets, routing tables, security groups, load balancers and network observability
- ▹Create and evolve design systems and patterns that scale across multiple products and platforms
- ▹Conduct user research with DevOps engineers, network administrators, SREs and cloud architects
- ▹Build prototypes and high-fidelity designs using Figma or similar tools
- ▹Create experiences for network troubleshooting, monitoring and observability
- ▹Work on both GUI and terminal-based user experiences
- ▹Mentor designers and contribute to design culture across Canonical
- ▹Own one of the design working groups
Requirements
- ▹Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
- ▹Bachelor's or equivalent in User Experience, Design or STEM, or a compelling narrative about your alternative path
- ▹8+ years of experience in product design, UX design or interaction design with a strong B2B/enterprise portfolio
- ▹Solid understanding of cloud computing and networking fundamentals
- ▹Experience designing for developers and operations teams and their workflows
- ▹Strong information architecture skills
- ▹Experience with user research methodologies and translating findings into design decisions
- ▹Excellent communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences
- ▹Self-motivated and comfortable in a distributed, remote-first environment
