Senior Design Manager (Infrastructure)

Backend Developer • Senior • On-site • Full-time • 📍 Home based - EMEA

Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, is hiring a Senior Design Manager to lead its Infrastructure Design team. The role combines people management of designers with deep technical domain expertise, coaching the team to build tools for developers and cloud engineers. You will own product areas around cloud experiences, software distribution and the security of how software is packaged and delivered. This is a fully remote position based in the EMEA region.

Responsibilities

  • Review the work of the design team for quality and coach individual designers in their professional growth
  • Continuously improve operational workflows, including production outsourcing and collaboration with Web Engineering
  • Work with stakeholders, especially the Engineering organization, to clearly define and validate outcomes
  • Evolve design systems and guidelines to drive consistent quality and improve efficiency
  • Coordinate with the rest of design leadership to mature the collective practice
  • Bring the team together to share work, strengthen culture and engage the open source community

Requirements

  • A portfolio demonstrating outstanding quality in UX design and technological savviness
  • Exceptional educational achievements in design or a related behavioral science discipline
  • Full lifecycle experience from user needs discovery through validation and implementation guidance
  • Commitment to transparent project delivery and owning team deadlines
  • Experience managing a team that interacts with technical stakeholders
  • Willingness to travel up to four times a year for internal events
