Canonical is hiring an Engineering Director to own the development and operations of internal software products serving the business, plus the Livepatch security solution. The director leads the Commercial Systems unit, made up of three teams: Billing and Contracts (Golang services) and Livepatch (Golang client and backend for live Linux kernel patching). The role is fully remote and based in the EMEA region.

Responsibilities

  • ▹Lead multiple teams of engineers ranging from graduates to seniors
  • ▹Develop engineering managers to maintain Canonical culture in their teams
  • ▹Develop and evangelize great engineering practices and processes
  • ▹Set and implement solid performance management with goals and objectives
  • ▹Identify and measure indicators of team health and take action where needed
  • ▹Oversee Billing, Contracts and Livepatch services delivery

Requirements

  • ▹Track record of delivering full-stack software services
  • ▹Adherence to high engineering quality standards
  • ▹Ability to lead and develop engineering managers and their teams
  • ▹Continuous development of own and direct reports' skills
  • ▹Experience with performance management and team health

Nice to have

  • ▹Experience with Golang services
  • ▹Familiarity with billing, CPQ/contracts or security (Livepatch) domains
  • ▹Experience integrating with CRM, accounting and payment systems
