Staff Backend Engineer - Second Horizon | US | Remote

Stack

Responsibilities

• ▹Design and build the backend architecture for context ingestion, storage, retrieval and agent-facing integrations
• ▹Help build a scalable multi-tenant SaaS foundation: tenant isolation, usage tracking, quotas, audit logs, background jobs
• ▹Build APIs and service interfaces that let AI agents, MCP tools, CLIs and internal apps retrieve context
• ▹Balance fast experimentation with long-term reliability as the project matures
• ▹Instrument services with metrics, logs, traces and alerts
• ▹Help shape technical direction, architecture and API contracts for a new product area

Requirements

• ▹Strong experience building production-grade, user-facing software systems
• ▹Practical AI experience with a track record of shipping real, working solutions (not just prototypes)
• ▹Experience with LLMs, prompt engineering and GenAI-powered applications
• ▹Proven track record of software that made it into production and is actively used
• ▹Experience in cloud-native environments (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• ▹Experience using observability tools to understand system behavior

Nice to have

• ▹Experience with agent frameworks or multi-agent workflows
• ▹Experience as a data analyst or with data platforms (Looker, Tableau, Power BI, Snowflake, Databricks)
• ▹Experience building tools for data engineering
