Backend Engineer Core Team (GoLang + PHP)

Backend Developer • Senior • Remote • Full-time Ukraine Ukraine

A backend engineering role on the Core team, building stable, scalable backend solutions primarily in Go alongside a legacy PHP codebase, for a global wellness platform used by millions of people.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new backend functionality primarily using Go, with partial work on the PHP codebase (~80/20 split)
  • Migrate business logic from legacy PHP monoliths to Go services
  • Ensure the stability, performance, and reliability of systems in the production environment
  • Participate in improving infrastructure processes: CI/CD, observability, operational excellence
  • Collaborate closely with the product team and stakeholders to deliver end-to-end solutions in the domain
  • Conduct code reviews focused on best practices, code quality, and maintainability

Requirements

  • 5+ years of backend development experience
  • Commercial experience with Golang
  • Experience with PHP (Symfony or Laravel preferred)
  • Understanding of idiomatic Go patterns, best practices, and approaches to structuring Go applications
  • Experience with relational databases (MySQL and/or PostgreSQL)
  • Experience with asynchronous messaging (RabbitMQ, Apache Kafka, Amazon SQS, or similar)
  • Experience with caching and in-memory stores (Redis / AWS ElastiCache)
  • Infrastructure exposure: Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and/or production troubleshooting experience
  • Experience with Linux and Docker
  • Ability to write and maintain unit tests, ensuring code quality and reliability
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work with complex systems or domains

Nice to have

  • Experience migrating from a PHP monolith to Go services
  • Strong experience with PHP 8+ (Symfony or Laravel)
  • Experience with distributed systems and high-load services
  • Experience with cloud and container orchestration tools: AWS services, Kubernetes, Helm, service mesh technologies (Istio or similar)
  • Practical experience with microservices architecture and REST APIs
  • Knowledge of architectural design principles: Clean Architecture, Hexagonal Architecture, DDD
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
