Blockchain Software Developer (Unpaid Volunteer)

Volunteer blockchain software developer role at the Blockchain & Climate Institute, supporting research and proof-of-concept DLT applications for climate-focused initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide software development and blockchain engineering support across research divisions
  • Contribute inputs for Councils established under the BCI Fellowship Scheme
  • Support development of Proof-of-Concept DLT applications across sectors like finance and energy
  • Attend conferences and events to demonstrate prototypes and engage stakeholders

Requirements

  • Relevant degree or training (Computing, Engineering, Math, Physics or similar)
  • At least one year of experience developing blockchain systems
  • Familiarity with major public chains (Bitcoin, Hyperledger, Ethereum, Tether, EOS, Ripple, Monero)
  • Solid knowledge of Linux and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure)
  • Experience with Java, C++, Solidity, JS, Go, Python
  • Experience developing smart contracts and knowledge of token standards (e.g. ERC20)
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes and microservice architectures
  • Excellent English writing and communication skills

Nice to have

  • Master's or PhD degree
  • Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish language skills
  • Knowledge of climate change, climate finance and AI topics

Soft skills

Excellent oral communication and relationship-building skillsStrong organizational skills, able to manage competing demands under pressureStrong presentation skills
