Embedded & Desktop Linux Systems Engineer - Optimisation

Canonical is hiring an engineer to optimise the full Ubuntu stack (kernel through GUI) for the latest silicon, partnering with chip vendors to integrate next-generation hardware features into IoT and server platforms.

Responsibilities

  • ▹Design the best Ubuntu integration for the latest IoT and server hardware
  • ▹Work with partners to deliver an optimised Ubuntu experience
  • ▹Contribute to technical plans, testing strategy, and quality metrics
  • ▹Act as technical lead on complex customer engagements from cloud to edge
  • ▹Help customers integrate apps, SDKs, build OS images, and optimise applications

Requirements

  • ▹Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, STEM, or similar
  • ▹Experience with Linux packaging (Debian, RPM, Yocto)
  • ▹Experience with open-source communities and licensing
  • ▹Experience with C, C++
  • ▹Ability to work in a globally distributed team

Nice to have

  • ▹Experience with graphics stacks
  • ▹Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DHCP, HTTP/REST)
  • ▹Basic IoT/server security knowledge
  • ▹Public speaking experience
  • ▹Embedded experience (SoC, BMC, bootloaders, firmware)
  • ▹Experience with Docker/OCI containers and Kubernetes
