Ubuntu Linux Kernel Engineer - Silicon Enablement

Canonical is expanding its silicon enablement squads so Ubuntu Linux natively supports more SoC platforms (NVIDIA, Xilinx, MediaTek, Qualcomm) with optimal performance. The role requires hardware-level software engineering in a fully remote setup.

Responsibilities

  • ▹Integrate silicon vendor platform support into the kernel
  • ▹Diagnose and resolve kernel issues
  • ▹Deliver silicon-optimised kernel variants
  • ▹Improve tooling and automation
  • ▹Submit, review and apply kernel patches
  • ▹Identify ways to maximise performance on partner silicon

Requirements

  • ▹Significant programming ability in C
  • ▹Knowledge of device drivers and BSPs
  • ▹Solid background with git
  • ▹Understanding of OS kernel fundamentals
  • ▹Fluent written and spoken English
  • ▹Willingness to travel twice a year

Nice to have

  • ▹Python and Bash scripting
  • ▹Background with major SoC families
  • ▹Ubuntu/Debian/Snap packaging
  • ▹Linux kernel patching and debugging experience
  • ▹Performance optimisation knowledge
