PHP/JS/Moodle Developer

A senior fullstack Moodle developer is sought for a client project at a global consultancy focused on digital learning and educational innovation. The work is building Moodle-based e-learning solutions for public sector clients.

Responsibilities

  • ▹Interact with business analysts, customers, users, project leaders and developers
  • ▹Gather and refine requirements for Moodle-based e-learning solutions with stakeholders, instructional designers and UX/UI teams
  • ▹Take part in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, backlog grooming, daily stand-ups)
  • ▹Develop and customize Moodle plugins and themes following Moodle development guidelines
  • ▹Configure Moodle core functionality (courses, roles, competencies, quizzes, grading systems)
  • ▹Develop front-end website architecture and back-end web applications, implementing core business logic
  • ▹Design and develop responsive applications and APIs, and implement third-party API integrations (e.g. authentication systems, external content providers)
  • ▹Develop custom reports and dashboards on learning engagement and user progress
  • ▹Create servers and databases for functionality
  • ▹Implement security and data protection
  • ▹Optimize Moodle performance (caching, database indexing, load balancing)
  • ▹Test and fix bugs, monitor and resolve issues in production Moodle environments
  • ▹Keep up with Moodle core and plugin updates, applying patches and security fixes
  • ▹Write and run unit, functional and integration tests
  • ▹Conduct peer code reviews and manage CI/CD pipelines for automated Moodle deployments
  • ▹Deploy Moodle instances with Docker for cloud-based solutions
  • ▹Write technical documentation and take the lead on projects as needed

Requirements

  • ▹At least 1 year of specific expertise in Moodle architecture, APIs and plugin development on large Moodle installations of at least 500,000 users supporting more than 5 languages (mandatory)
  • ▹At least 1 year of expertise building responsive Moodle themes using HTML/HTML5, CSS/CSS3, JavaScript and Bootstrap (mandatory)
  • ▹At least 5 years of experience with front-end languages (JavaScript, HTML, CSS)
  • ▹At least 5 years of proficiency with back-end languages and frameworks (PHP, Java)
  • ▹At least 2 years of expertise in cloud architecture, REST, SOAP, AWS services
  • ▹At least 5 years of MySQL experience
  • ▹Very good knowledge of Atlassian Confluence, Atlassian JIRA, PHP, MySQL, Power BI or similar, and familiarity with AWS
  • ▹Experience designing and implementing reporting solutions
  • ▹Experience with projects involving end-of-life systems
