Infrastructure Engineer

Backend Developer • Remote • Full-time • 📍 Remote (US)

Infrastructure Engineer role on the Infrastructure team at WorkOS, a developer-tools and API company powering authentication, identity and authorization for enterprise readiness. The Infrastructure team builds and maintains the core systems behind the platform, handling millions of requests at scale and keeping systems fast, reliable and always on. The team works across the stack, partners closely with teams across the company, supports high-impact projects and contributes architectural perspective. The company is looking for engineers with a generalist mindset who enjoy working across infrastructure layers and care deeply about observability, reliability and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain the distributed systems that power core parts of WorkOS
  • Write and optimize backend services in TypeScript with attention to performance, reliability and maintainability
  • Evolve the use of AWS and Infrastructure as Code to scale systems intelligently and sustainably
  • Partner with product engineering teams to ensure systems are built with reliability and scale in mind
  • Build internal tools and shared infrastructure to support engineers across the company
  • Participate in the on-call rotation, responding to, resolving and learning from production incidents
  • Contribute to technical design reviews and architectural discussions
  • Document work, share context and help level up the team through collaboration
  • Experiment, iterate and find better ways to build and operate the systems

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience
  • Experience designing, building and operating infrastructure or internal platform systems
  • Familiarity with modern cloud environments (AWS) and orchestration tools (such as Kubernetes)
  • Comfort working in a culture of autonomy and ownership
  • Comfortable working across infrastructure layers, from compute and networking to storage and databases
  • Ability to balance trade-offs between simplicity, scalability and reliability

Nice to have

  • Exposure to TypeScript or willingness to work in a TypeScript-based stack
