Responsibilities

• ▹Configure and deploy web servers (Apache, Nginx or Microsoft IIS) according to project requirements
• ▹Install and configure server software, applications and security settings
• ▹Implement load balancing and scalability solutions for varying web traffic
• ▹Monitor server performance and optimise configurations for speed, efficiency and resource utilisation
• ▹Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks (CPU, memory, disk I/O, network)
• ▹Implement caching mechanisms and CDNs to improve website performance
• ▹Implement and maintain security measures against malware, DDoS attacks and unauthorised access
• ▹Configure firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS) and SSL/TLS certificates
• ▹Conduct regular security audits and apply patches and updates to mitigate vulnerabilities
• ▹Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery plans and test restoration procedures
• ▹Monitor server logs, performance metrics and system alerts and troubleshoot issues
• ▹Investigate and resolve server-related incidents and service disruptions in a timely manner
• ▹Collaborate with development teams to resolve web application issues affecting server performance
• ▹Maintain documentation of server configurations, procedures and troubleshooting steps
• ▹Generate reports on server performance, uptime and security incidents

Requirements

• ▹Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field
• ▹Proven experience as a web server administrator or in a similar role
• ▹Proficiency in configuring and managing web servers such as Apache, Nginx or Microsoft IIS
• ▹Strong understanding of web technologies, protocols and standards (HTTP, HTTPS, DNS, TCP/IP)
• ▹Experience with server-side scripting languages (PHP, Python, Perl) and database systems (MySQL, PostgreSQL)
• ▹Knowledge of security best practices and experience implementing web server security measures
• ▹Familiarity with monitoring tools (Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus) and version control systems (Git)
• ▹Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• ▹Effective communication and collaboration skills

Nice to have

• ▹Industry certifications such as CompTIA Server+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
• ▹Experience with containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform)
• ▹Knowledge of web application firewall (WAF) solutions and IDS/IPS
• ▹Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
• ▹Understanding of DevOps principles and practices
