Senior Software Engineer role at Confluent (an IBM subsidiary), working on Kora, the storage engine for Confluent Cloud's data streaming platform. The team solves complex distributed systems and infrastructure problems, building Kora from the ground up as a true managed service with high availability and performance at the lowest cost of ownership. You build a highly available, performant, reliable, durable, scalable, and multi-tenant storage engine, driving technical solutions end-to-end across all three major clouds.

Responsibilities

  • ▹Build the software underpinning the mission-critical Confluent Cloud storage engine, designing, developing, and operationalizing high-performance, scalable, reliable, and resilient systems
  • ▹Independently drive execution of software projects to deliver complex projects in production with a focus on quality
  • ▹Identify root causes and get beyond treating symptoms, digging deep to solve hard problems
  • ▹Troubleshoot issues and improve operations for a complex technical stack that spans all three clouds
  • ▹Make decisions that benefit the team and company with a strong sense of teamwork
  • ▹Focus on customers, taking on their most challenging problems to make them more successful

Requirements

  • ▹BS, MS, or PhD in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • ▹2+ years of relevant cloud infrastructure/cloud networking experience
  • ▹Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and development
  • ▹Experience building and operating large-scale systems in the cloud
  • ▹Solid understanding of basic systems operations (disk, network, operating systems)
  • ▹A self-starter with the ability to work effectively in teams
  • ▹Proficiency in Java, Scala, C/C++, Go, or other statically typed languages

Nice to have

  • ▹A strong background in distributed storage systems or databases
  • ▹Experience in the areas of resource management and QoS
  • ▹Experience/knowledge with public clouds (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • ▹Interest in evangelism (giving talks at tech conferences, writing blog posts evangelizing Kafka)
