Senior NPI Firmware Engineer

Oura is looking for a highly experienced Senior Firmware Engineer with deep expertise in charger architectures, PMIC integration, and battery-powered embedded systems, working across the full product lifecycle on power management and charging firmware.

Stack

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, debug, and optimize power management firmware (battery charging, PMIC integration, power sequencing, charging interfaces)
  • Contribute to the full power management firmware stack (low-power states, battery management, charger negotiation, system-level power transitions)
  • Work across the full product lifecycle: early architecture and hardware bring-up, NPI validation, manufacturing ramp, and long-term sustaining
  • Hands-on hardware bring-up and debugging using schematics, datasheets, and lab equipment
  • Develop low-level drivers and platform ports for PMICs, chargers, and related subsystems, plus firmware update mechanisms
  • Support manufacturing: develop factory test firmware and define manufacturing test specifications
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, product, program management, and manufacturing teams
  • Design firmware architectures balancing performance, power consumption, and user experience
  • Contribute to firmware architecture and technology strategy decisions

Requirements

  • 5+ years of firmware development experience in battery-powered consumer electronics or other high-volume embedded systems
  • Significant experience integrating PMICs, battery chargers (switching or linear), fuel gauges, and protection circuits
  • Strong understanding of charging algorithms, current/voltage regulation, thermal management, and safety mechanisms
  • Expert-level C/C++ development in resource-constrained systems, with deep knowledge of MCU peripherals, interrupts, power domains, and RTOS-based systems
  • Experience optimizing battery life through power states, wake-up flows, and power transitions
  • Comfortable in an agile development environment with strong collaboration and communication skills across distributed teams
  • Hardware-level debugging skills (oscilloscopes, power analyzers, logic analyzers)
  • Experience supporting factory firmware releases and manufacturing ramp activities
  • Strong system-level thinking across hardware, firmware, and manufacturing processes
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
