Video Research Engineer (Multiple Levels)

Qualcomm's Multimedia R&D and Standards Group is seeking Video Compression Research Engineers to join its world-renowned team, developing algorithms, hardware architectures, and systems applying classical and machine learning methods to video compression, video processing, point cloud coding, AR/VR, and computer vision.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design, implementation, and optimization of advanced algorithms improving video compression efficiency
  • Participate in research and development of AI-based compression tools
  • Represent Qualcomm in standardization forums (JVET, MPEG Video, ITU-T/VCEG)
  • Document and present new algorithms and implementations via standards contributions, patents, and publications

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of theory, algorithms, and techniques in video and image coding, including latest standards (HEVC, VVC)
  • Experience with deep learning architectures (CNN, RNN, autoencoders)
  • Track record of research accomplishments through publications and/or patents in video coding or processing
  • Solid C/C++ programming combined with knowledge of a machine learning framework (PyTorch or TensorFlow)
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Master's or PhD with relevant experience or publications in video compression, video/image processing, computer vision, or machine learning
  • Bachelor's degree in Science/Engineering plus 6+ years experience (or Master's +5 years, or PhD +4 years)
  • 1+ year of experience with a programming language such as C, C++, or MATLAB
