Director of Engineering – Automotive Software

Qualcomm's Automotive Software Platform team is looking for a Director/Principal-level Customer Project Engineer to oversee the full lifecycle of automotive software projects, from concept to completion. The role involves direct interaction with OEM engineering executives and Qualcomm's senior leadership, with a focus on Cockpit (IVI) and ADAS programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical aspects of automotive software projects from concept to completion.
  • Build and maintain relationships with the OEM's engineering executives, architects, and program leads.
  • Coordinate Qualcomm's internal engineering teams (hardware, software, systems, safety, test) to meet customer milestones.
  • Define technical solution proposals based on Qualcomm's SoC, BSP, and platform software portfolio.
  • Drive resolution of critical technical issues, coordinating with the customer and Qualcomm management.
  • Support design reviews, workshops, and on-site integration activities.
  • Identify, analyze, and mitigate project risks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems or Computer Science and 8+ years of software engineering experience (or Master's + 7 years, or PhD + 6 years).
  • 4+ years of experience with programming languages such as C, C++, Java, Python.

Nice to have

  • Extensive experience in software engineering project leadership and management.
  • Strong background in automotive systems engineering: SoC, GPU/DSP, accelerator architecture.
  • Familiarity with embedded software stacks (QNX, Linux, Android, middleware, frameworks).
  • Knowledge of automotive safety and quality standards (ISO 26262, ASPICE, cybersecurity standards).
  • Proven experience as a customer-facing technical leader (chief engineer, system architect, program lead).
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams without direct authority in a complex matrix organization.
  • Willingness to travel regularly, domestically and internationally.
