(Senior) Software Engineer

Responsibilities

• ▹Consistently and quickly build and launch excellent software: understanding customers and their needs, engineering elegant and practical solutions, iterating on and polishing work to Buildout Quality standards
• ▹Work within a milestone-based feature development framework, helping the team lead break large projects into well-scoped, estimable components
• ▹Work with the team's Product Manager and UX Designer to ensure everyone is on the same page and the user experience is consistently great
• ▹Help maintain Buildout Quality by performing thorough and timely code reviews, pairing on difficult issues
• ▹Set and achieve Buildout-sponsored personal and professional goals with the team lead

Requirements

• ▹Multiple years of product software development experience at a SaaS company, or the ability to demonstrate equivalent learning in less time
• ▹Uses AI as a force multiplier throughout the software development lifecycle
• ▹Communicates well across engineering, product, and design, and enjoys solving problems collaboratively
• ▹Ruby/Rails knowledge (Buildout is a Ruby shop, so deep Rails knowledge helps you get up and running quickly)
• ▹JavaScript/React knowledge (front-end is built on React for new work, alongside a mature codebase being modernized)
• ▹Testing experience (RSpec and Jest, with growing Playwright end-to-end coverage)
• ▹Other web tech: Git, Slim view templates, lightly customized Bootstrap CSS, MySQL, and AWS
• ▹Experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) in real workflows
• ▹Ability to frame a problem with enough context and constraint that the first AI output is useful, then iterate rather than accept
• ▹Ability to catch subtly wrong AI-generated code, missing edge cases, and security issues
