Software Engineer - Database Engineering

Responsibilities

• ▹Design, develop, and support a petabyte-scale cloud database that is highly parallel and fault-tolerant
• ▹Build high-quality, reliable software for some of the largest companies in the world
• ▹Analyze and resolve performance and scalability bottlenecks
• ▹Pinpoint problems, instrument components, and implement solutions
• ▹Design and implement novel query optimization or distributed data processing algorithms
• ▹Design and implement new service architecture for the Snowflake Data Cloud
• ▹Develop tools to improve customers' insight into their workloads

Requirements

• ▹2+ years of industry experience with commercial or open-source software
• ▹Fluency in Java or C++
• ▹Familiarity with development in a Linux environment
• ▹Excellent problem-solving skills, strong CS fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, distributed systems)
• ▹Systems programming skills including multi-threading and concurrency
• ▹Experience with testing, debugging, and documentation
• ▹Bachelor's degree in CS, Software Engineering, or related field, or foreign equivalent; Master's or PhD preferred

Nice to have

• ▹Knowledge of SQL or other database technologies, including internal design and implementation
• ▹Query optimization, execution, and compiler design/implementation
• ▹Experience with distributed key-value stores (e.g., FoundationDB) and storage engines (RocksDB, InnoDB, BerkeleyDB)
• ▹Experience with MySQL or PostgreSQL internals
• ▹Data warehouse design, database systems, and large-scale data processing (Hadoop, Spark)
• ▹Large-scale distributed systems, transactions, and consistency models
• ▹Experience with database replication technology
• ▹Big data storage technologies (HDFS, Cassandra, columnar databases)
