Principal Software Engineer, Android

This role develops Android-based software for medical devices at a global healthcare company. It involves building robust software architectures, developing modular and testable components, and shaping the team's development methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Build and develop robust software architectures, influencing team development processes and methodologies
  • Develop software components in an Android environment for medical products using architectural patterns, strong object-oriented principles, and automated testing
  • Own software implementation ensuring it is modular, testable, reusable and maintainable
  • Participate in formal documentation of requirements, software architecture and detailed builds
  • Analyze product requirements and derive software requirements
  • Identify key product-level technical risks and assist project managers with mitigation plans
  • Review work products and ensure quality of deliverables
  • Apply SDLC principles and Lean/Agile/XP methodologies, software and product security, and scalability practices

Requirements

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science or related field, 5+ years in software engineering and 2+ years developing Android applications
  • Proficiency in Java/Kotlin, with familiarity in JavaScript/TypeScript and C++ for embedded/firmware
  • Hands-on experience with Android SDK, NDK, Android Studio, and strong understanding of Android architecture, components and security
  • Background in regulated industries preferred, especially medical devices with exposure to IEC 62304
  • Strong software architecture, design patterns, SOLID principles, TDD and CI/CD familiarity
  • Experience working in Agile environments using tools like Azure DevOps or Jira, and version control systems such as Git or SVN
  • Proven track record of delivering technical solutions and working with cross-functional and multisite teams
