Senior Software Engineer, Connectors

Responsibilities

• ▹Design, develop, and maintain connectors in open source Trino, the Starburst Enterprise Platform, or Starburst Galaxy
• ▹Find ways to speed up complex queries without sacrificing correctness
• ▹Collaborate with team members and other teams globally in a fast-paced environment
• ▹Communicate clearly in writing via Slack, GitHub PRs, and design documents
• ▹Provide exceptional customer support for internal and external customers

Requirements

• ▹Prior experience developing distributed systems
• ▹Extensive software development experience with Java
• ▹Demonstrated experience with software engineering and design best practices
• ▹Appreciation for maintainable, performant, high-quality software
• ▹Intrinsic motivation to improve software engineering craftsmanship
• ▹Significant autonomy and ownership
• ▹Curiosity about other engineering teams' work
• ▹Willingness to travel 25% for onboarding, offsites, and customer engagements

Nice to have

• ▹Familiarity with using a query engine (storage and compute separation)
• ▹Data engineering expertise, understanding the data engineer's perspective in data lakehouse architectures
• ▹Experience with Iceberg, Delta Lake, and/or Hive table format sync
• ▹Experience contributing to larger-scale open-source software
