Staff Technical Product Manager, Runtimes

Responsibilities

• ▹Own the runtime surface end-to-end: define and drive strategy and roadmap for Compute and VCL
• ▹Scale Compute for demanding workloads: primitives, predictable limits, reliability
• ▹Bring new execution models onto Fastly as native runtime workloads
• ▹Define how runtimes meet the AI era: AI workloads, machine traffic, new execution patterns
• ▹Take and defend strong, evidence-based positions on runtime direction across Engineering, Product and leadership
• ▹Partner with the Core Infrastructure technical lead, go-to-market functions, and the hybrid/on-prem team

Requirements

• ▹8+ years in product management or technical product leadership, ideally on infrastructure or platform products
• ▹Deep understanding of execution environments: runtimes, containers, isolation models, serverless or edge compute
• ▹Demonstrated bias for shipping, comfortable owning outcomes in ambiguous, fast-moving conditions
• ▹Proven ability to form and defend strong technical opinions and lead without authority
• ▹Clear, confident communication between deep technical discussion and executive-level framing
• ▹Genuine curiosity about the 'why' behind customer problems

Nice to have

• ▹Startup or 0-to-1 experience building and shipping technical products in resource-constrained environments
• ▹Hands-on background with runtime/isolation technology: container platforms, WebAssembly component model and WASI 0.3, Firecracker or comparable microVM/sandboxing stacks
• ▹Experience with edge compute, developer platforms, or runtime interoperability at scale
