Staff Engineer, People Technology

Responsibilities

• ▹Own the design, development and maintenance of people system automations and integrations across Workato, GCP, Claude, Workday, Greenhouse and GitLab
• ▹Build and maintain integrations between Workday, Greenhouse, Slack and internal tools using Workday Web Services and Slack's API/Bot SDK, diagnosing failures proactively
• ▹Write, version and maintain automation code in Ruby (or comparable scripting language) stored in GitLab, with documentation and code reviews
• ▹Develop and manage Slack apps and bots that deliver automated workflows
• ▹Diagnose root problems behind surface-level requests, co-design durable and scalable automation solutions
• ▹Serve as subject matter expert on Workato automation architecture, driving standardization and reusability
• ▹Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines for People system automation
• ▹Leverage AI tools, LLMs, and MCP frameworks including Claude to accelerate automation development
• ▹Provide technical guidance to teammates and stakeholders, partnering with InfoSec, AI Engineering and IT

Requirements

• ▹Hands-on experience writing and maintaining code in Ruby or a comparable scripting language (Python, PHP)
• ▹Deep expertise in Workato or a comparable enterprise automation/integration platform, with production track record
• ▹Strong experience integrating with Workday using Workday Web Services (WWS)
• ▹Experience building Slack apps and automations using Slack's API and Bot SDK
• ▹Proficiency with Git and GitLab for version control, code review and CI/CD
• ▹Familiarity with GCP or AWS; experience with Docker and Kubernetes (GKE a bonus)
• ▹Experience connecting HR systems including Workday, Greenhouse and internal tools
• ▹Comfort working with AI tools and MCP frameworks
• ▹Strong communication skills translating technical architecture into business decisions
• ▹Engineering mindset applied to people systems: reliability, observability and maintainability as first-class concerns
• ▹Understanding of how HR data flows
