Senior Technical Lead - AI Product Engineering (CMH Health)

Tech Lead • Lead • On-site • Full-time • United States US, USA
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Technical Lead - AI Product Engineering (CMH Health) based in the United States. As a Senior Technical Lead, you will shape the technical direction and delivery of AI-enabled healthcare products, transforming complex actuarial and business workflows into reliable, scalable software. You will take ownership of key products and engineering workstreams, guiding architecture, implementation, quality, and production performance. Combining hands-on development with technical leadership, you will make critical engineering decisions while mentoring others to take greater ownership. You will work closely with product owners, consultants, domain experts, and end users to ensure solutions address real business needs. AI-assisted engineering will be central to your approach, helping teams accelerate development while maintaining rigorous standards for accuracy, security, and reliability. This role offers the opportunity to influence the evolution of commercial healthcare technology products in a collaborative, forward-deployed engineering environment. How Jobgether works: We use an AI-powered matching process to ensure your application is reviewed quickly, objectively, and fairly against the role's core requirements. Our system identifies the top-fitting candidates, and this shortlist is then shared directly with the hiring company. You may exercise your rights (access, rectification, erasure, objection) at any time. #LI-CL1 Accountabilities You will be accountable for the technical outcomes of your assigned products and workstreams, balancing hands-on engineering with architectural leadership, delivery ownership, and team development. Define pragmatic architectures, including service boundaries, APIs, data models, and system integrations, balancing reliability, security, performance, cost, and maintainability. Explain technical trade-offs and select straightforward, effective solutions that meet business and product requirements. Translate business needs into actionable technical plans by collaborating with product owners and domain experts, clarifying requirements, identifying dependencies, and breaking work into small, testable increments. Own technical delivery commitments and proactively communicate risks related to scope, budget, dependencies, and timelines. Build verification into the development lifecycle by strengthening automated testing, data-quality controls, regression checks, and AI evaluation practices. Ensure releases are supported by clear evidence that complete workflows function correctly, rather than relying solely on individual component testing. Improve production readiness through effective deployment, monitoring, rollback, and support practices. Investigate recurring production issues and implement targeted improvements that reduce failures and manual intervention. Guide the responsible use of AI-assisted development tools and coding agents, including context management, generated-code reviews, evaluation, and appropriate human oversight. Measure the impact of AI-assisted engineering through improvements in end-to-end delivery outcomes rather than code volume alone. Develop reusable engineering patterns, shared capabilities, and tooling where they address demonstrated needs, encouraging adoption without unnecessary complexity or approval bottlenecks. Delegate meaningful technical ownership, review designs and implementations, provide constructive feedback, and mentor engineers through challenging technical decisions. Maintain close relationships with consultants and users, support product rollout and adoption, and communicate technical risks and decisions clearly. Partner with relevant domain and control authorities to meet quality standards and risk management requirements. Take hands-on responsibility for implementation, code reviews, debugging, and production investigations when needed. Requirements The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineer and technical leader who can combine strong implementation skills with sound architectural judgment, delivery accountability, and the ability to develop independent engineering teams. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. At least 6 years of relevant experience in software engineering, data-intensive systems, platform engineering, or a closely related discipline. At least 2 years of experience in a technical lead, staff engineer, or similar role, with responsibility for technical direction, delivery ownership, and developing other engineers. Strong production software engineering skills, including the ability to inspect, debug, and improve existing implementations hands-on. Experience designing and operating cloud-based systems on Microsoft Azure or a comparable platform, including deployment, identity and access management, observability, and operational reliability. Strong understanding of SQL, data modeling, APIs, and cross-system integration. Demonstrated judgment in testing, data integrity, security boundaries, failure modes, and the evidence required before releasing changes. Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools, supported by a disciplined approach to reviewing and validating generated outputs. Proven ability to lead substantial technical initiatives through delivery while managing dependencies, scope, and stakeholder expectations. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to challenge technical decisions constructively and explain complex trade-offs. Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and help them become more autonomous and effective. Curiosity about the business context behind software products and willingness to learn complex healthcare and actuarial workflows. Legal authorization to work in the United States without requiring immigration support or sponsorship now or in the future. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Azure services, infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, or Databricks. Background in healthcare analytics, claims data, actuarial systems, or another regulated, data-intensive industry. Experience operating AI-enabled production workflows with evaluation datasets, traceability, and appropriate human review. Experience modernizing established applications and data pipelines while minimizing disruption to users. A track record of reducing recurring support effort, release friction, or cloud operating costs through measurable engineering improvements. What Success Looks Like During the first six months, you will establish priorities and performance baselines with the team, then demonstrate progress through: Clear technical ownership of your assigned area, with stakeholders knowing whom to contact and receiving direct, reliable answers. Delivery of a meaningful system or workflow improvement that is actively used and supported by clear acceptance evidence and operational ownership. Stronger, reusable verification and release practices adopted across your area of responsibility. Fewer recurring technical blockers and avoidable manual interventions. Engineers making stronger technical decisions and taking ownership of larger outcomes with less need for senior-level escalation. Product and domain partners who understand technical trade-offs and trust the team's delivery commitments. Team Environment and Role Evolution Work in a builder-to-owner culture where engineers use AI to accelerate development and senior leaders remain accountable for client outcomes and commercial results. Collaborate closely with engineers and product owners embedded in real client and consulting workflows rather than operating within an isolated software function. Contribute to a culture that values ambitious ideas, thoughtful prioritization, reliable execution, and trust earned through sound technical decisions. Maintain high standards of quality and accountability across everything delivered. As AI continues to transform software development, the role may increasingly evolve toward product leadership, including defining product direction, understanding client and actuarial needs, and owning broader business outcomes. The future scope of the role will depend on technological developments, client needs, and individual strengths and interests; a specific title, timeline, or career path is not guaranteed. Benefits Annual salary range of $131,600–$249,780 , depending on location and individual qualifications: $151,340–$249,780 for candidates residing in Alaska, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York City, Newark, San Jose, San Francisco, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, or the District of Columbia. $131,600–$217,200 for candidates residing in all other locations. Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees, dependents, and domestic partners. Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offering confidential support for personal and work-related challenges. 401(k) retirement plan with company matching and profit-sharing contributions. Discretionary bonus program recognizing employee contributions. Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) for eligible medical, dependent care, and transportation expenses. Paid time off accruing from the first day of employment: 15 days annually for full-time employees. Prorated accrual for employees working less than full-time. At least 10 observed holidays per year. Family-building benefits, including adoption and fertility assistance. Up to 11 weeks of paid parental leave for eligible employees. Life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) coverage, with premiums fully covered. Short-term and long-term disability insurance, fully paid. Preferred on-site work locations in Chicago, Illinois; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; or Hartford, Connecticut, with remote candidates also considered. Full-time employment in a hybrid or remote arrangement, depending on location and working setup.
