Technical Community Lead, Campus Leaders

Backend Developer • Remote • Full-time • 📍 San Francisco

As part of OpenAI's community team, you'll work as a program and community manager building deep relationships with student leaders at the campuses with the most advanced AI adoption, shaping how OpenAI shows up there.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop deep relationships with standout student leaders at leading global campuses
  • Learn the culture, priorities, and opportunities unique to each campus
  • Support campus leaders in planning semester strategy, recruiting members, and building sustainable engagement
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between OpenAI and frontier campus chapters
  • Partner with chapter leaders to design and execute exceptional events, workshops, and activations
  • Design and refine engagement formats that help students build and stay up to date with OpenAI tools
  • Connect campus leaders with relevant OpenAI teams, speakers, programs, and opportunities
  • Capture insights, playbooks, and best practices from frontier campuses for the broader Campus Leaders network
  • Surface exceptional students, projects, and community initiatives to relevant OpenAI teams

Requirements

  • Deep knowledge of AI tools (ChatGPT, Codex, APIs) and coding ability to help students build, debug, and prototype
  • Has personally built, prototyped, or shipped projects using AI tools, APIs, agents, or developer workflows
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to build trusting relationships with ambitious, highly capable people
  • Strong project and program management skills coordinating multi-stakeholder events and initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently and exercise good judgment amid ambiguity
  • Strong pulse on AI-native builder culture, active participation in technical builder communities
  • Experience designing and executing community programs, events, workshops, fellowships, or ambassador programs
  • Strong organizational skills managing multiple campus relationships simultaneously

Nice to have

  • Experience working with university students, campus organizations, startups, or developer ecosystems
  • Experience running hackathons, conferences, or workshops
  • Experience translating community insights into product, education, or marketing recommendations
  • Experience creating community content: newsletters, guides, playbooks
  • Existing relationships within leading universities or entrepreneurial ecosystems
